“Music in the Air” or “5th Avenue Folies”. My series of unretouched single-shot photographs capture the interplay of real, staged and imagined elements within the festive holiday window displays of fashion stores mainly in New York.
My choice for fashion store windows stems from my New York past as graphic designer and art director for product launches and promotion in the cosmetics and fragrance industry and my experience left me with a trained eye for lighting, composition and design.
I remain passionate about fashion and have been photographing the series since 2008.
The layers within my imagery materialize as street reflections are observed on invisible barriers over the staged scenes. The reflections give rise to new compositions, crafting new realities. Resulting tapestries are symphonies of multi-layered effects, beckoning viewers into realms of curiosity and delight, and a shared voyage of the imagination.
The building reflections contribute to the allure. Each frame encapsulates personal mysteries of fleeting co-existences—moments where live street scenes mix with the meticulously staged, seamlessly blending into splendid realms of imagination. The instance manifests into single-shot images and pristine prints, capturing the pure, unparalleled magic of the moment in a universe where well-dressed mannequins reign as silent sovereigns of style, substance and folly. The effect of light plays off the brushed aluminium, creating further mystery and appreciation of the fleeting moment.
Photo taken in 2012 at Bergdorf Goodman 5th Avenue, New York.
